Moving overseas presents a special set of challenges to children. To help with the transition, Judith M. Blohm, cross-cultural trainer and educator, has created Where in the World Are You Going?, an entertaining book that is used by major relocation companies all over the world for children ages five to ten to make a move overseas more manageable. This fun-to-use book is filled with activities and lively drawings designed to engage and delight young readers. Blohm makes a point to explore what_s on children_s minds: what they are worried and excited about, what they think will be different in the new country and ways they can help their families as they get ready for the move. The author includes practical suggestions such as how best to stay in touch with friends and relatives. Perhaps the most challenging concept involves cultural differences, and Blohm tackles this head on. Through a series of simple examples, she captures the essence of cultural differences in a non-threatening manner that will stimulate children to learn more and ultimately embrace the differences they encounter.
Judith M. Blohm is a cross-cultural educator and training consultant in the Washington, D.C. area. She has taught all pre-college levels in the U.S. and abroad, as well as training teachers, other professionals and volunteers to work in multicultural settings with the Peace Corps, State Department and other organizations. Blohm is the author and editor of numerous training materials, has contributed to various books in the intercultural field, and is co-author of Kids Like Me (Intercultural Press, 2006).

”My three children were drawn to this book. For the first evening in a long time, they were quiet and in bed reading this book.

The children are really looking forward to this move and this book got them off on the right foot. It was been a very positive experience, and I wouldn’t have been able to do the right thing on my own.

It [the book] has been a special and private way for them to process the move.”—Janice Davis, Peace Corps Desk Officer Department of State moving to Ecuador
